Remembering Hiroshima with 1,000 Cranes

In commemoration of Hiroshima Day, August 6, we invite you to join us in creating 1,000 origami cranes, long associated with the desire for world peace.

At City Center, Green Gulch and Tassajara, anyone who is interested is welcome to help, folding one or many. If you would like to learn how to make the cranes, we will be offering instruction at City Center on the following dates:

  • June 4, Saturday, 7:30 pm. We will begin by showing the short film Sadako’s Cranes: The Story of the Girl on the Hiroshima Peace Park Children’s Monument.
  • June 23, Thursday, 7:30 pm.
  • July 8, Friday, 7:30 pm.
  • July 16, Saturday, 11 am.

The cranes will be dedicated in a ceremony at City Center on August 6 (time to be announced). Everyone is welcome to attend.

This project will be used to support Zen Center’s scholarship fund, helping those who cannot afford to attend classes, workshops, sittings, etc. Donations can be made of $1, $5 and $10 per crane. Whether you create the crane yourself or fund someone else to do so, you participate in this beautiful and peaceful work.
