Sejiki at City Center and Green Gulch

Sejiki is a traditional Japanese Zen Buddhist ceremony for the spirits of departed ones. At City Center and Green Gulch Farm, it is celebrated at Halloween.

Green Gulch Farm: Sun, Oct 30, 5pm

City Center: Mon, Oct 31, 6 pm, followed by dinner

This powerful ceremony summons forth all restless spirits and pacifies agitation and violence within and without. It includes a reading of the names of close friends and family members who have died.

Names for the ceremony at City Center can be submitted through the Front Office at 415.863.3136 by Mon, Oct 24. For inclusion of names in the Green Gulch ceremony, call the office at 415.383.3134 by Mon, Oct 24.

At City Center, the ceremony and dinner following include wearing costumes. This is a wonderful family event. Children are invited to trick-or-treat after dinner at City Center and at Zen Center residences nearby. Dinner at City Center is $10 for adults, $6 for children under 12. Please make a reservation for dinner through the City Center office at 415.863.3136 and let us know at that time if you wish to help with decorations, meal prep, set-up, or clean-up. Information about activities for children is also available through the office.
