Congratulations to three initiates who received the precepts in a ceremony at SFZC’s City Center on April 23. The preceptor was Keiryu Lien Shutt, supported by co-preceptor Tenzen David Zimmerman, City Center’s Abiding Abbot. Receiving the precepts were Christina De La Cruz – Kishin Shinai / Spirited Heart-mind, Returns Home; Peter Thai – Eido Anshin / Hero’s Truth, Easeful Heart-Mind; and Yunnie Tsao Snyder – Jigei Kangyo / Healing Art, Generous Action. Their ceremony was delayed since 2020 due to the pandemic, and thus was especially joyous. It is also noteworthy that this is the first all Asian American onsite jukai at San Francisco Zen Center.

Attendees, participants, and the temple staff came together to celebrate this lay ordination, happy to be able to meet in person, even while masked, and to enjoy the reception, briefly unmasking for photos and refreshments.
