In response to the recent increase in federal executions, the Soto Zen Buddhist Association Board released a call to abolish the death penalty and halt executions, gathered signatures for that statement, created a change.org petition, and contacted the press.

San Francisco Zen Center’s Abbatial and Executive Leadership are in full support of these actions, believing they are in alignment with the precepts. Many SFZC leaders and teachers have signed the petition and invite all sangha members who see this as an important issue to join them.
