May Art Show: Cindy Shih

Reception and opening: Friday, May 4, 7 pm
in the City Center Art Lounge, 300 Page Street, SF

“Love. Being. Here. Now.” is a timely, deeply personal show that contemplates my relationship with my Grandmother, a devout Buddhist, as she nears the end of her life. After being diagnosed recently with cancer, my Grandmother has chosen not to undergo treatment. Instead, she has chosen to embrace the inevitable with her usual grace and courage. With a heavy heart, I have channeled everything she has taught me in my grief, my frustration, my denial, as well as my reluctant acceptance of her decision in creating the work for this show. Thank you for loving, for being, and being here with me, now.

Cindy Shih is a visual artist who lives and works in San Francisco. Her work is strongly rooted in traditional techniques and principles, including Chinese literati painting, Venetian plasterwork, landscape painting, and realism in a modern context. One of her prominent themes is exploring her personal narrative in a broad context, and using nature as metaphor. Cindy Shih was born in Taiwan and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of three. In 2012, Cindy gave up her career in Tech to pursue Art full-time. In 2014, her mixed media piece received “Best of Show” at the annual MFA/BFA show at the deYoung Museum. She is currently represented by Abend Gallery in Denver, and has shown works in juried and invitational shows here in the Bay Area and abroad.
